Frog’s Leap 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

The winery’s just-released 2011 Cab is vigorous and good. Its tannins are a little rugged, with tongue-sticky astringency. Underneath that comes a burst of cherries, currants, plums and smoky oak. The wine doesn’t feel like a long-term ager, but it does provide plenty of pleasure now and will hang in there until 2018–2019.
